Picking your photographer in 3 easy steps…

Ok, maybe it's not 'easy steps' but hopefully some things to consider...

Whether we’re the perfect match, or you’re still looking for the right photographer for your family, here’s some things to think about.

Number one: Newborn safety.

Maybe it stems from my own experience of having a premature teeny tiny on oxygen that I place this as number one.  Your baby’s airways are smaller than a straw which means while they are tiny precious totally gorgeous newborns, they are also vulnerable little bubs. Making sure your baby is safe is the most important consideration. That’s why it’s crucial to consider formal training when finding the right photographer for your family. Formal newborn photography training, and recognised paediatric qualifications means correctly and safely looking after your little one and knowing how to best support you and your family.

And yes! I have this!

Number two: Understand your photographers style.

You are paying for a service before you’ve seen your images. That means you have to be confident in the photographers editing style and understand a product before it’s even delivered. Hard right? Well, look through portfolios of similar sessions to understand the breadth of a gallery and be sure to share your goals and ambitions for your photoshoot. It takes skill and training to perfect the best angles, lighting style and editing. Every photographer will enhance their skills and develop their training to progress their creativity. A connection is vital in you receiving a gallery your heart does a happy dance for. And when you do that happy dance, I promise it’s the best feeling!

My style? I'd describe it as light, bright, relaxed and natural. No two families are the same and nor should their galleries be.

Number three: Confidence.

Lastly, you have to believe in your photographer with your insecurities or vulnerabilities - to show you how amazing and beautiful you are inside and out. That means it’s vital to find a photographer you feel a connection with. Talk to them. Be honest with them. Tell them everything. Whether that’s confidence in sharing your vision and hopes or comfortable to discuss your concerns and hang ups. Your photographers goal will be to show you how beautiful you are and for you to love and adore your images.

How do I know? Well I'm a Mama too. Which means I have been through the body changes and have had all the insecurities at some point. Your body and mind changes more than you'll ever realise as you jump feet first into motherhood. I understand how tough it is. But I'll be right here to hand hold, guide and be your biggest cheerleader.

Can I help you more with capturing your motherhood journey? I hope so! But if not, that’s ok too. Whatever your dreaming your images are like, there is a photographer out there for you.
